ONBOARD SIGNAGE
Taking pictures of the walls of the cross channel ferry is probably a one of the more unusual hobbies one could take up, but the signage of the Quiberon gives an interesting reflection of the ship's operational changes since entering service. Nils Dacke entered service with much signage in English, or Swedish and English in some areas. The part-original deckplan shown below appears to originally have been entirely in English.

ABOVE LEFT: Signs in Swedish aboard Quiberon in 2002 were, after 20 years of Brittany Ferries service, few and far between. There are several exceptions however - this example, adjacent to a fire extinguisher, bears the singularly unexciting information that "Extinguishers uncharged or out of function may not be located at this point." - Quite how the French crew of Quiberon understood this important safety information is unexplained. ABOVE RIGHT: An original Nils Dacke sign in one of the aft 'E', 'F' or 'G' stairwells. This was the only sign of this style that was found on board.
ABOVE: A singularly puzzling relic of the Nils Dacke as the Quiberon in 2002 was this apparently original deckplan, signed and dated 2nd June 1975. The plan is located just out of the passenger areas, amongst crew cabins at the aft end of Deck 7, but is easily accessible from the deck space at that level. Closer inspection however reveals that the arrangement of the upper decks on the plan conform to the current layout rather than the Nils Dacke original. The reasoning for this confusing difference perhaps lies with Brittany Ferries not having a complete plan of this type of the more technical areas of the ship, so re-used the original as a template whilst amending those passenger areas which were rebuilt during the ship's various refurbishments. Why they did not go to the trouble of at least amending the ship's name whilst doing this though is pretty inexplicable!
BELOW LEFT: Beneath the car deck in one of the washrooms on Deck 2 in 2002 could be found this old-style Brittany Ferries Emergency/Muster point information sign, complete with the old BF logo. Dating probably from the original pre-service refit in 1982, it was perhaps the last publicly displayed version of this logo sailing around Britain. BELOW RIGHT: Back in the main passenger spaces, this general directions sign is typical of those added in the upper decks during the 1980s, and features English translations in grey for those words not identical in English as in French.

ABOVE: As the Giulia d'Abundo the ship retains almost entirely the logotypes devised for the various ship's facilities by Brittany Ferries, such as the one pictured at the entrance to Le Ponant bar.

ABOVE: Also still present on the Giulia d'Abundo are deckplans featuring the ship's former name (or, at least, part of it!). An attempt has at least been made to bring this into line with her later identity: the small sticket beneath the 'B' and 'E' reads "M/V Giulia d'Abundo, Madeira".
