A: Nomentana (Tirrenia) The Minoan/Superfast-style interiors have been fascinatingly transplanted to a heavily rebuilt classic ferry dating from 1980 - this is the main bar/lounge area, but all the key passenger spaces have been transformed in this manner. Things are only skin-deep however and the ship retains much of her original style, especially in the austere below car deck cabins.

Ferry Picture Quiz
B: Stena Baltica (Stena Line) A port side seating lounge on the lower decks of the former Koningin Beatrix. Although the rest of the ship has been thoroughly refurbished, for unknown reasons this lounge (but not the equivalent on the starboard side) has been left in all its original SMZ lino floored glory.
C: Peter Wessel (Color Line) The Peter Wessel has been maligned by some, but we found her to be a mostly pleasant ship, especially in the aft areas - this lounge is right aft on the upper of the two main passenger decks and is very comfortably furnished in a distinctly Norwegian fashion.
D: Vis (Jadrolinija) The little Vis retains much of the original 1960s fittings, dating back to her original incarnation as the Sydfyn of Nordisk Færgefart. These include this large mural on an aft bulkhead - the letters NF can be seen on the houseflag depicted at the centre.
E: Southsea The future doesn't look good for the former Portsmouth-Ryde ferry - this is the view looking forward on the port side of the main passenger deck in 2004.
F: Sagafjord (Saga Line) The forward bar on Sagafjord, looking aft on the starboard side. The staircase leading up to what was originally the main restaurant (latterly a cafeteria) was an addition made in the ship's Scandinavian career.
G: Valun (Jadrolinija) The 'Hello Kitty' plastic seating section of the astonishing Valun clashes with an eccentrically traditional staircase. The ship is barely changed from her original guise as the Japanese Koraku Maru.
H: Visby (Destination Gotland) Vast expanses of reclining seating are a feature of the new Gotland ferries, but this is exactly what the route demands - the Visby and Gotland can have an almost library-like quietness as passengers sleep through the crossing, but no one seemed bored by the experience.
I: Sibari (Ferrovie dello Stato) The unchanged original interior of one of the classic Italian state rail ferries.
J: Europa I (Skenderbeg Lines) The forward piano bar. A surprisingly discreet and intimate public space on the ship supposed to have been "the most notorious ferry in Europe".
K: Kraljica Mira (SEM) The Grand Staircase leads into a main lobby filled with distinctly non-grand reclining seats.
L: Mariella (Viking Line) The bar area of the extensive conference complex.
M: Pride of Provence (P&O Ferries) With a superb location overlooking the forecastle, the Club Lounge on the Provence was one of the best (albeit probably the smallest) in the Dover fleet.
N: Seafrance Manet (Seafrance) Le Pub, located right forward on the lower passenger deck. This area still features Stena Line's stylised 'S' carpetting from the ship's days as Stena Parisien.
O: El Venizelos (ANEK) The El Ven's jungle: a port-side arcade is bestowed with more of the plants which are a feature of much of the ship.
