Ciudad de Sevilla (City of Seville) was one of a series of six Canguro (Kangaroo) class ferries built in Valencia over a twelve year period in the 1970s/early 1980s, the first two of which came into the ownership of Trasmediterranea from Ybarra Lines in 1981. The fourth built, Ciudad de Sevilla of 1980 has spent her career operating on the core Trasmed routes from Barcelona and Valencia to the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Majorca and Minorca) and on the North African route to Melilla in Morocco from Malaga and Almeria on the Spanish mainland.

The class name Canguro apparently comes from the fact that, like the kangaroo, the ships carry something in their "pouches" - in this case vehicles on their car decks.
